Movement Care – Modern Slavery Policy
1. Purpose of this Policy
At Movement Care, we are committed to limiting the risks of modern slavery practices within our business and supply chain. This policy supports our commitment and underpins our annual Modern Slavery Statement.
2. Who This Policy Applies To
This policy applies to all individuals involved in our business, including employees, directors, officers, labour hire staff, contractors, and other representatives of our business or any business within our supply chain.
While this policy is not part of any contract you may have with us, compliance is expected. Non-compliance may result in the termination of our business relationship, and if you are an employee, disciplinary action or dismissal may occur.
3. Understanding Modern Slavery
Modern slavery involves depriving a person of freedom for commercial gain and violating fundamental human rights. It includes situations where offenders use coercion, threats, or deception to exploit victims and undermine their freedom. Modern slavery encompasses serious exploitation and can take various forms, such as:
-
Slavery: Owning a person, trading in slaves, or financing slave trading (e.g., human trafficking).
-
Forced Labour: Forcing a person to work through coercion or threats; servitude involves significant restriction of a person's freedom.
-
Forced Marriage: A marriage without free and full consent, possibly due to lack of understanding or coercion.
-
Debt Bondage: A person works to pay off a large debt for an unlimited time, or where the value of the work is not applied to the debt.
-
Deceptive Recruiting: A recruiter charges a fee for a job offer, confiscates identity documents, or deceives a person about their freedom or ability to leave the job.
-
Child Labour: Not always unlawful, but not tolerated by us when it involves exploiting children, depriving them of education, or making them work in unsafe environments.
Modern slavery can be complex and multifaceted, making it difficult to identify.
4. Indicators of Modern Slavery Practices
Indicators may include situations where a person:
-
Is not in possession of their own passport, ID, or travel documents.
-
Acts as though they are being instructed or coached by someone else.
-
Allows others to speak for them when spoken to directly.
-
Is dropped off and collected from work.
-
Appears withdrawn, frightened, or has physical indicators of slavery, such as injuries.
-
Is unable to contact friends or family freely.
-
Has limited social interaction or contact with people outside their immediate environment.
-
Provides inconsistent or erroneous stories.
-
Exhibits hostility or difficulty concentrating due to trauma.
-
Has few possessions.
-
Has little or no control over their finances or access to a bank account, or is being significantly overcharged for accommodation.
-
Lives in a poorly maintained and overcrowded place.
These indicators are not exhaustive and do not necessarily confirm the presence of modern slavery practices. Other circumstances may also suggest that something is not right.
5. Importance of Limiting Modern Slavery Risks
Addressing modern slavery risks is essential for protecting our workers and maintaining our reputation. It also supports our compliance with modern slavery legislation by assessing and addressing these risks within our business and supply chain.
